Who must comply

If you place batteries on the EU market, the passport obligation applies to you — regardless of where your company is based.

Importers

Importers bringing LMT, EV or industrial batteries over 2 kWh into the EU must ensure each battery model has a valid passport before it is sold.

Manufacturers

Manufacturers placing LMT, EV and industrial batteries over 2 kWh on the EU market must provide the required passport data for each model.

Sellers & Distributors

Sellers placing these batteries on the EU market need a live, QR-accessible passport. No passport = product cannot legally be sold.
